Mold Preparation

Mold surfaces to be texture should have a 240-320 emery finish for most texture finishes.   Also, the entire oxide scale layer from Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) must be removed from the surface that is to be textured.   It is also necessary to strip plated molds before texturing.

Draft Angles

Draft angles of the mold are very important when considering texturing.   Industry standard is 1 ½ degrees of draft needed for every .001” pattern depth.   Each pattern has a specified depth and minimum amount of draft required.   Depending on the application, these pattern depths can be altered to accommodate areas that have less then the amount of draft needed.   Please contact us for draft requirements with areas in question.
